Because C19 is not as deadly as MSM would like us to believe, so they needed to create some real deaths to support the fear machine while they found other ways to inflate numbers and adjust the reporting policy (ie probable positive cases being included in reported statistics) to suit the fear agenda. Same reason why there was hard pushback against cheap & effective medication (HCQ) that could have ended this much earlier had it been widely supported treatment.
Plus the added benefit that nursing home patients are not likely [D] voters, so they make good targets.
