Q knows this, but Disney did not concoct these stories. The original versions were much darker. Disney HID the dark stuff.
Children need to learn that evil is real, and they must prepare to fight it. Not by being consumed by it or obsessing over it, but by regarding it as pathetic (and so not to be entirely feared), and yet a real menace to anything good and beautiful.

Attempt at a serious answer:
MOST of the Disney stories that are derived from European fairy tales highly "sanitize" them. The originals are FAR darker. (And this is true even if pervs on the Disney team try to "hide" signals in the product…)
Darker isn't necessarily bad… if you think that evil is real and needs to be confronted.
