Why the ermahgerding? Everyone knows (everyone should know….) all these old tales and fables are cautionary/educational tales; their original purpose was precisely to wake up the children to the dangers of the world. Pinocchio is obvious; another notorious case is Little Red Cap. It's was only they became blandified (not because of, but as in Disney) that they gradually lost that value.
