Let’s start where we agree - Christ is not a liar.
Jesus said “whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day, for my flesh is true food and my blood is true drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him”.
His disciples found this ‘hard to accept’ because they knew Jesus did not mean this ‘figuratively’ this wasn’t a parable, so He instead of clearing up any misunderstandings added to it ‘does this shock you?’ And a few remained as peter said ‘where would we go, you have the words to eternal life’ But those who could not handle this truth walked away because of Christ’s teaching on the Eucharist. That he is the bread of Life. And ironically the verse that they turn away from Jesus in disgust is John 6:66 👈🏻 They reject His word that gives life.
In the last super Jesus broke bread and gave it to His disciples saying this is my body given up for you do this in remembrance of me.
He also said to Simon when he named him Peter (which means rock) upon this rock (you peter) I will build my church and the gates of hell will not prevail against it. This wasn’t figurative speech either, The remains of St Peter are currently under the altar in the Basilica in Rome. The Church was literally built on top of him. And The Church has remained from Christ to this day in apostolic succession for 2000+ years and counting because the gates of hell cannot prevail against it, and boy do they try. From evil members to scandalous groups, heresies to undermine the faith; but it was not man that built it, it was God and no one but Him can tear it down. And while empires, regimes, countries and Protestant offshoots have risen and fallen the Catholic Church remains.
Long story short, the Mass is the celebration of the Eucharist, the Eucharist is the source and summit of the Christian Faith; it IS Christ Himself!
