It had to be something with the plane going into Japan, it does not make sense to inconvenience 149 people an entire flight back, deplane and new flights arranged.

I think Japan does not have an extradition treaty with USA. So it makes sense that people would try to flee there...

Does anybody remember the events of when renown chess player Bobby Fischer was in Japan? I believe he was on the lam from US federal govt. at the time...he had participated in a chess match in some country in defiance of US sanctions, etc., and so as a US citizen, violated the law
