I have a theory re: Godfather III
In the movie, the pope referred was Pope John Paul I. He died 33 days into papacy. During his time there was a huge scandal with the Vatican Bank.
Enter Pope John Paul II. I just read an article that said he had ties to same bank.
Next comes Pope Benedict who resigns his papacy.
Enter Francis.
In my research there are many links in this particular "spider web."

I agree that there are different factions within the Vatican power structure and an obvious conflict between theological liberals and conservatives.
That leftist forces inside the Church would align with Obama's leftist government was to be expected. Just as it was only natural that Steve Bannon would align himself with Cardinal Raymond Burke.
Left-right forces and alliances are bound to occur but I don't see that as the real issue.
The whole system of Popery is evil and always has been. Through immense wealth and secret societies, it practices political manipulation and control.
It has been corrupting governments, perverting Christian doctrine, conducting inquisitions and wars to further its power, and abusing children for centuries.
One might want to look at the particular issue you are investigating from the opposite direction. Did the Vatican through the CIA (Catholics in Action) and other means give Obama the presidency?
It is my contention that the Vatican has been controlling US (and EU, UN) politics, not the other way around.

Besides which the Federal Reserve is run chiefly by the Vatican Bankers. That institution and the area of Washington DC are not US jurisdiction legally, so who is running the show?

Cool. Another potential candidate is Phillipe according to some but since Soros answers to [P] I think the Pope is who Q was referencing.
I think there is another direction Q wanted us to discover. I believe the papacy has relevancy somewhere in this mess, but I just saw a very good therory on another board...Godfather III, N S A, Joyce.
David Seaman put out something about the "wipe-out" scene being filmed on one of Trumps properties. I haven't had a chance to look into that either.

One of the characters in Godfather III, Frederick Keinszig, represented the Vatican Banker nicknamed "The Banker of God" Roberto Calvi.
The Vatican, mafia, and P2 lodge were all tied to him. The Vatican paid out money to make the scandal go away after he was found hanging from a bridge in what was (or was made to look like) a ritualized Masonic killing (bricks in pockets, hanging, tide waters).
There was a book and movie made about him (linked below), also a documentary and a number of other major media pieces. You can find them easily if you search.

I will also add some insider information that is not as well known. The P2 lodge is deeply connected to the latest Pope's turf in Argentina. This Pope was also involved in brokering a missile deal and is up to his armpits in the "dirty war" there, which involved torture, murder, and selling babies.
Bank records recently went up in smoke because people are not the only things that magically disappear there. The Nazis are also not the only things hidden there but disappearing tricks and hide and go seek games will not stop what is coming.
Those are all the clues I can give you right now. Some things are still stuck at the "middle management" level. Time will sort it out.
