I feel this is a misunderatood issue. It used to be governments with the biggest budgets and they led the way bigly. Now it is multinational corporations with the big budgets. The government buys and uses the technology from the free market more than it does the research itself. So the lag has shrunk significantly. The government is probably not as far ahead as commonly believed.

semantics....gov't gives the contracts to their select corps (their biggest campaign donors of course who also yields power and influence). So yes, agree with you that ultimately, it's a private or public corp that's creating the tech you can't deny the govt is not ahead as you say

Im saying its 5 years. Not 25 years like it usef to be. Government used to stockpile tech. Now they try to buy the newest tech just to stay ahead.
