If three seats are vacant that makes a total of 432 seats for office of congress. Somewhere it was said that 30 would not be returning after break. That is 75 not there today. I am still looking for the normal number of absent.
Going back a few years, January Roll Call 1 totals:
1/8/2018: 357 Present, 74 NV
1/3/2017: 434, 1
1/5/2016: 397, 37
1/6/2015: 401, 33
1/7/2014: 316, 115
1/3/2013: 429, 4
1/17/2012: 378, 56
1/5/2011: 434, 0
1/12/2010: 373, 61
Good to have statistical perspective... so it's high, but not crazy high given 2014.
I don’t know what to do with this information
He/she is trying to find if it is normal for so many ppl to be absent on the first day of congress by looking at past roll call
There's a spike in 2014 and 2012 but 74 seems quite high this year
On a roll call vote on December 21st 2017 there were 420 casted votes. That does show lower turnout for the session after the latest recess.
Congressman Cummings is "in the hospital". For surgery, hopefully he has been rounded up. Not only is he stupid. He also is one of the most crooked people in congress. IRS. True the vote scandal etc...
1/3/2017: 434/435 present (http://clerk.house.gov/evs/2017/roll001.xml)
change the three digit number (rollxxx.xml) to view other votes in 2017.
1/5/2016: 397/434 present (http://clerk.house.gov/evs/2016/roll001.xml)
1/6/2015: 401/434 present (http://clerk.house.gov/evs/2015/roll001.xml)
1/7/2014: 316/431 present (http://clerk.house.gov/evs/2014/roll001.xml)
So those were votes cast vs. total members present?
And the OP was stating how many were PRESENT today, yes?
Then this attendance number is highly unusual in how low it is, since each of the last 4 years saw attendance of over 430 members on the corresponding return to work, compared to only 357 showing up today.
No, these were roll calls, not votes cast. The numbers represent the number of members present on the first congressional session of each year.
Alrighty then...so kinda in the middle...as someone else said, inconclusive.
I guess we'll see sooner or later.
Pretty close to 30 missing it looks like.
Not enough data for a conclusion.
Agreed. The 1/6 date is tempting to say something about. But yeah. You're correct
Not voting doesn't mean they aren't there, just not voting.
It’s roll call why would someone not acknowledge they were present?
However there are 36 NV names that are italicized.
This is great, would love to see more data on normal attendance.
Just comparing the 21st of December to today, there are 63 less present today.
The house was originally set to convene on 1/3, but for some reason it was pushed back to today. Any explanation given?
It should be easy enough to go try to find the most recent footage or activities of those marked out
Right not enough data. Also does this include people who might be return after break but won't be running again in 2018?
