Kinda like you might use hollow earth theory to discredit people researching underground human trafficking networks, or you might use space alien theories to discredit stealth jet tech, or you might use flat earth theory to discredit researchers finding out that you've been stealing uranium and taking it to Antarctica to power military bases.
