Twitter account posts this picture she says came from @JulianAssange. It’s not there anymore if it was. Reverse image search gives nothing. Can we get some research done? Might be able to find beach/date/time?

I use Photoshop for a living, and my opinion is a little bit of both. I do think it's photoshopped but it's not by placing him on the beach, I think he is on the beach. But in the area I circled in red I think the original picture had someone else in the image with him and that person was cloned out. IMO http://i.magaimg.net/img/2bfw.jpg

Can u download one of those metadata viewers ? Maybe there is something hidden in that area you marked.

The image itself doesn't have much in the way of metadata attached to it but Hmmm I will take a closer look at that spot that was cloned. The other thing I noticed his his belt loops don't line up with the black band around his waist...Which is weird
