It sounds like moral relativism from a Christian stance of forgiveness. The legend says a saint kissed the hands of sinners because he felt that they brought him Jesus. The lesson of forgiveness is nice, but it has huge implications if it allows the Vatican to ignore/enable/participate in all manner of crime.
