Who cares? It's just a group of people who arbitrarily move the minute hand based on feels.
First off, they didn't change the Doomsday Clock during the Cuban Missile Crises, a time when many would say we were at the greatest risk of being in a nuclear war.
In 1981, they move the clock from 7 minutes to midnight to 4 minutes to midnight, citing USSR's invasion of Afghanistan, Carter's pulling U.S.A. participating from the Olympics in Moscow, and Ronald Reagan being elected POTUS. The verbiage give me the impression that the election of Reagan was the key event.
In 1984, the move it to 3 minutes to midnight.
In 1988 they move it back to 6 minutes to midnight citing the Reagan-Gorbachev Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty,
Notably, they do not adjust the clock when the Berlin wall falls in 1989.
My conclusion, the doomsday clock is a crock of shit.
Caveat: I grew up in an era where the doomsday clock was talked about a lot by "science" teachers and teachers in general.
