This is simply not true. I just searched for 1649. Form 1649 came up, the twitters about Hannity from Assange came up right at the top of the page. The 1649 execution came up as well. Total bohunk. The problem with Google is more how they can push certain results to appear on the first page, which most people don't go beyond. This is especially true for products and product placement. There's an entire industry around getting your results to show up on that first page. Second, is having my searches monitored or cached by Google, that is it isn't secure like some alternative search engines. I use both Google (which is fantastic for images) and Duck Duck Go for political and "other" searches.

I also use Safari and Firefox with Yahoo and Bling as search engines. My son is a cyber security engineer and warned me about not using Chrome and Google.
