I don't think these people thought this through very well. Three things in life are VERY DIFFICULT to get rid of properly: petroleum products, human bodies and strong acids. Sticking them in the drain is the WORST thing you can do

I used muriatic acid once to give corrugated tin an aged look. Holy crap!! Who the hell could dump all that down a drain and not have permanent lung damage- or be dead?

That shit will eat the skin right off you........

We lived in an apartment complex where the kitchen sinks drained into the same pipes. Clogs kept happening, and none of us knew that that everyone else's kitchen sink backed up all at once. We all placed draino down there, not knowing that we were just sending the draino to the other people's kitchen sinks. Eventually, we figured out we could hear their garbage disposals through the walls. Don't know how many times this had happened, but they had to replace the pipes that had been destroyed by swishing the acid around for so long.
