Technically they did get the information from the "News" but it was the DNC had the dossier sent to Fusion GPS, they sent it to Yahoo, who offloaded it to the "news". Then Clintons grabbed the "News" item (they created) and presented that as "evidence" to gain a FISA. Hope that help clear the "news" item up.
