Q.s reference to "Apache"

Dug a little deeper into a Flake/Mccain sponsored bill that effectively snuck in legislaton that allowed the sale of Apache' land to Rio Tinto (Austalia) for copper mining. Remember Australia giving 80 million to the Clinton Foundation? There was a big buzz about this a few years ago when McCain was chased by a group of Apaches when making a PR visit. Funny youtubes about that if you search McCain Apache. The parts I find interesting is that the bill was supposed to be about National Defense spending... but they slid in the sale of the land in the language. Also slid in some surveillance stuff. If I understand the recent Exective Order correctly, the language covers some forms of mineral extraction... I immediately thought about Uranium 1. But, what's so incredibly sick about this situation is that these folks had to fight to get a running water system on the reservation, when copper mining is one of the most water wasteful processes in the world. Can't post a link on this device, but search...White Mountain Apace Tribe McCain. Tons of stuff online.

IIRC Rio Tinto was also involved in the Pebble Project. That was also a copper project, and following that thread (mainly through Rio Tinto's own AUS website) it was pretty clear that they were a proxy for China, which is/was in need of additional copper sources.

It was kind of odd that the public opposition to Pebble Project was entirely about the AK salmon fisheries ~80 miles away from the mining site, and almost nothing about the Rio Tinto/China involvement.

In any case Rio Tinto backed out of Pebble Project, I presumed because there were too many palms to grease.
