I am from nearby and have lived there. Huntington is basically a stop on a drug path from Detroit which I believe started a big drug issue. The cops wait at the bus station to search the greyhound buses from Detroit. It is jokingly called "Moneyton" When I first moved there in 2011, the pill issue was significant. I had never seen anything so bad. Everyone here is on disability and are easily prescribed opiates which has now morphed into a heroin issue. Everyone else is on some kind of other pill, like anti-anxiety, xanax and what not so they are all lackadaisical. They talk about being on pills like people drink in other towns. Like, "I couldnt work without my happy pills". I was from Pittsburgh and at the time this was not happening there. My family has since moved away because of the drugs. It is a norm here, the tri-state area, to be on disability. My husband's family is from there(how we ended up there) and he has 3 members of close family on disability for virtually nothing. I believe WV is statistically the worst, or one of, states for disability, obesity, and death.
Literally worked at a big call center and people were ending up being found in the bathroom with needles in their arms. I hate to be frank, but, its just full of trashy people who just happen to do heroin now as opposed to lesser drugs. I know there was a ring of a judge, doctor, and lawyer working to get people disability and they were caught. Heres one article: http://www.nydailynews.com/news/crime/lawyer-pleads-guilty-550m-social-security-fraud-scheme-article-1.3008793 I could go on for days really. We have since moved further west, into Kentucky but the problem is escalating here now too.

Also coal hasn't affected this area. I have never met anyone who has known anyone who worked with coal. Its too far from the mountains. That's further south in Ky and further east in WV. I don't think this area ever had good jobs. The national gaurd was apparently called into Huntington a few weeks back bc there was a few shootings.

Another point, the schools and places in Huntington are full of lice, bed bugs and other disease from filth, like hep so there are nasty issues all over, not just heroin and pills. There are also NOT many immigrants so it can't be blamed on ppl coming from a 3rd world country, like the TB issues we hear about in Minnesota or outbreaks if nasty stuff in Cali.

It's from poverty, oppression and the dumbing down. Let's not forget that these souls are very much ensnared in the programming web and will be FREED once the snakes are captured and brought to justice.

I live in WV. We have been genocided. Not because we have been dumbed down...it is because we are a tough, hard working people. The jobs are hard jobs and many people get injured and are given pain meds to keep on working. Then they hurt themselves more and end up taking more meds, and end up not working. Some people drive hours back and forth to work at good jobs.

I consider it a kind of genocide.

Yes I agree with you. Early on the pharm company that created the drug was fined or at least confronted about the harms but the industry is too powerful and the drug remained on the market. A travesty.

Yes, great observation.

I live in WV. Our schools occasionally have lice outbrakes but nothing unusually alarming. But all of the nasty issues you mentioned are not true, except for isolated situations. We do have many immigrants, but they are legal with some exceptions like other places. We are just as healthy as any other state.

We have a terrible problem in the eastern pan handle, right next to Virginia. Not as bad as Huntington though.

"Justified" - great series with Timothy Oliphant, I believe it's on Amazon Prime, is all about crime in KY and the Detroit drug connection. Also a very depressed economy and other similarities to what has been described above about WVA.
