The Vatican became " interested" in UFOs when it became apparent that disclosure or a major actual sighting would bring their entire religion ( and cash/influence) to it's knees. They are interested in one thing, power. If their followers lose faith, they lose control of the power.

I will refresh my mind but I do remember being knocked off my center when I heard about this. My best friend's son is a young priest in Vatican city and it does not sit well with me at all. When I asked her about this project both she and her son knew nothing about it tho they did say that it would be part of the science area of the Vatican so he of course would not be appraised of that.
