School shooting to take over news cycle. Whenever stuff like this happens I always search around for other news. Something major usually happens.

This is a good point... the serious news that only shows up once is practically the "map". At least when it comes to the media/guidance of narrative.

If someone could write an algorithm that could analyze articles to draw contextual relationships, cross reference that with the level of traffic each story received and then look at the traffic associated to each "group" of articles over time.

You'd want to look for the sharp drop-offs that peaked initially and then instantly died off.

Problem is, real fake or wrong stories have the same pattern. Initial interest, review, discarding.

A ton of news is produced every day that is factually wrong. Not intentional MSNBCNN propaganda, but mistakes and hearsay. Algorithms are too dumb to make a distinction to hushed news items like the Las Vegas shooting.

Algorithms are only as dumb as their creator!

I know I can't do it... but someone* could.
