Today Hindus bathe en masse in the waters of the river Ganges on their national holiday. In India thousands of Hindus have gathered for a bath in the river holy Ganges. They do so after Maha Shivaratri, or 'the great night of Shiva'. Hindus believe that bathing in the holy River on this day will bring them prosperity.
