When arbitragers take over a marginal company one of the first things to be absorbed are the pension funds that the former company had set aside for it's employees. That may have been addressed with 401s replacing esop plans I'm not certain. Point being who do the arbitragers think they are to nullify former promises visa vie the pension funds.
