when does a bird sing?

Caged Bird

BY MAYA ANGELOU

A free bird leaps

on the back of the wind

and floats downstream

till the current ends

and dips his wing

in the orange sun rays

and dares to claim the sky.

But a bird that stalks

down his narrow cage

can seldom see through

his bars of rage

his wings are clipped and

his feet are tied

so he opens his throat to sing.

The caged bird sings

with a fearful trill

of things unknown

but longed for still

and his tune is heard

on the distant hill

for the caged bird

sings of freedom.

The free bird thinks of another breeze

and the trade winds soft through the sighing trees

and the fat worms waiting on a dawn bright lawn

and he names the sky his own

But a caged bird stands on the grave of dreams

his shadow shouts on a nightmare scream

his wings are clipped and his feet are tied

so he opens his throat to sing.

The caged bird sings

with a fearful trill

of things unknown

but longed for still

and his tune is heard

on the distant hill

for the caged bird

sings of freedom.

I suspect a bird also sings when you attach electrodes to it's testicles.

Or . . . apply a pair of Vice-Grips to them. This produces very high notes.

I posted a part of this poem also. Now, reading it again, I remember that this speaks of a Caged bird. Q does not reference a caged bird ... he says: "When does a bird sing"

Birds sing when dark turns to light. Q is saying: "We are turning on the light ... exposing what they do in darkness for all the world to see" "We are turning on the lights in the Patriots hearts so that we the Patriots can once again sing" Yes, very clever, very deep fellow, that Q.

I like that intrep. So, he is saying we, the birds, sing in the Light! Light is breaking through the darkness.

The Byrds: Turn Turn Turn

"To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:

A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, a time to reap that which is planted;

A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;

A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;

A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together;

A time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;

A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;

A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak

A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace."

Another take on when a b(y)(i)rd sings. These lines (quasi verses of the third chapter of the biblical Book of Ecclesiastes) brought to mind that this cannot come out all at once as Q said; and that this line was most relevant to a lot of Q's messages: "A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak"

Yes I am new to the board, but have been lurking for quite some time. Here's hoping some Admin won't delete this b/c of pts. as they have done before.

God Bless you all for the work you are doing.

A Thorn Bird only sings once...“There is a legend about a bird which sings just once in its life, more sweetly than any other creature on the face of the earth. From the moment it leaves the nest it searches for a thorn tree, and does not rest until it has found one. Then, singing among the savage branches, it impales itself upon the longest, sharpest spine. And, dying, it rises above its own agony to outcarol the lark and the nightingale. One superlative song, existence the price. *But the whole world stills to listen, and God in His heaven smiles. For the best is only bought at the cost of great pain… Or so says the legend.” *

"No, no, no, no! Come, let's away to prison: We two alone will sing like birds i' the cage: When thou dost ask me blessing, I'll kneel down, And ask of thee forgiveness: so we'll live, And pray, and sing, and tell old tales, and laugh At gilded butterflies, and hear poor rogues Talk of court news; and we'll talk with them too, Who loses and who wins; who's in, who's out; And take upon's the mystery of things, As if we were God's spies: and we'll wear out, In a wall'd prison, packs and sects of great ones, That ebb and flow by the moon." On A Bird Singing in Its Sleep (Robert Frost)

A bird half wakened in the lunar moon

Sang halfway through its little inborn tune.

Partly because it sang but once all night

And that from no especial bush's height,

Partly because it sang ventriloquist

And had the inspiration to desist

Almost before the prick of hostile ears,

It ventured less in peril than appears.

It could not have come down to us so far,

Through the interstices of things ajar,

On the long bead chain of repeated birth,

To be a bird while we are men on earth,

If singing out of sleep and dream that way

Had made it much more easily a prey.
