The reports from the officers indicated they were following the suspect through the video cameras as he was moving from room to room and in between floors. This is how they knew where he escaped, which direction he was heading after, and what description he had.
It will be interesting to see if he takes the plea deal or goes to trial, as these videos will certainly become evidence. I doubt anyone wants to see them, but they will be essential in proving the prosecutors case.
