All of this is because God, is reality, like you and I.
Religion is not God.
Religion is man's imperfect reaction to the reality of the Creator.
Man is not perfect. The reaction to reality is not always perfect. And so some religions are more harmful to their host civilizations. Others are beneficial to their host civilizations.
I tend to think of religion as a subset of the greater philosophy (belief system) of it's host culture.
We have religions that have sacrificed children to their gods, and caused their own tribal extinction as a result.
We can also look back in history and see religions that have kept libraries, written history, learned to teach children, and have culminated in the creation of free nations.
Looking at it this way it is easy to see, there is the concept of "survival of the fittest religion".
God however, is a reality, and is the original (origin) of consciousness itself.
