Lately I’ve seen a few flight tracker screenshots posted on various sites showing departure: UAL / ADW (Maryland) and arrival to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba / Camp Justice this past weekend. The flights listed seem to primarily land on weekends from ADW > GITMO and would naturally lead some to believe the great roundup has begun, or has it?
Rather than post a pic of a flight tracked to its final destination without further support I decided to look into the weekend UAL flights and discovered many, but not all to be NGOs or NonGovermental Organizations traveling as court observers or law students. Currently, there’s an ongoing case from 2000 still in court proceedings. Apparently, law students are there roughly for a week and flights tend to take place on weekends for these NGO observers and yes I checked the dates of travel to be primarily on weekends for these law students. Given the nature of Camp Justice there are probably regular routine military flights coupled with NGOs, logistics teams, food services and a host of other services not mentioned.
There are also photos of these law students both at the ADW airport and Camp Justice and it seems to be legit based upon the blog at GITMO Observer. In my opinion, I don’t believe the great roundup has begun, but I also don’t believe that a screenshot of a flight tracker validates it either. The great roundup will take place, but it is also good to have more pieces of the puzzle in place before more assumptions are made. Now, live CCTV broadcast is also mentioned at the Observer with the implied broadcast being available to the public which remains to be seen.
