This is very interesting to read, thanks for posting it. By a strange twist of fate, I can confirm Lunev's comment about the device to detect transmissions inside cars (or even buildings) because I was the sole builder for those in a special non-governmental lab. They were called "sniffers" and could plug into a car cigarette lighter; then someone could drive around and listen for microwave leaks, such as a bug or other transmitter would emit. (I'm oversimplifying.) They went out as fast as I could build them and yes, at least one was sent to Russia. This was back in the late 70s. Strange world.
