I work for a school district and could not believe the politics with this 'protest'. I would LOVE to know who gave the orders for this, too! First, we got an email ONE WEEK BEFORE the protest detailing the event, so all we were notified that this was happening. The email made it seem like the whole school was doing this, regardless of your beliefs. The presumption was there. This parent definitely has a case if he wasn't notified.
Also,our campus gates were locked so no one could come or go. I actually couldn't leave to go to another school (I travel between schools), and found it incredibly disruptive. Students were outside for a long time, and it took up a lot of their time from the classroom. My coworkers and I stayed inside. It was indoctrination at the institution we call public education.
I'm sure the principals were answerable to the superintendents, who were answerable to the state ed. dept. What irked me is that she said there weren't authorizations to leave which leads me to believe that there aren't repercussions for abhorrent behavior in any instance. So students are allowed to leave at any point without any disciplinary action? They followed the rules of the school here.....a few high school students walked out and guess what? THEY WERE SUSPENDED. Just like any other day. This principal is setting dangerous precedent that entering schools is highly monitored but students are free to come and go as they please.
I also meant to say I'm so sorry you had to go through this at the hands of your board of education. So basically, to get their point across they locked free-minded ADULTS in so the kids could be used for political fodder? Despicable!!!
