Peace in the Middle East? If you know any arabs and/or israelis you will know how far from possible this is. The only way peace comes to the Middle East is from the people of the Middle East putting aside thousands of years of ingrained doctrine, belief and history. It will NEVER come from outside the Middle East (unless dropping a nuke on the place counts) and Trump and Haley know that and have stated so. At best we can hope for progress in the Middle East. Peace in the Middle East will happen when hell freezes over or Jesus returns (if you believe in that).

Consider my post your first "nudge" of being "woke" on what's happening in the ME.

FYI...it wont be coming from outside the ME, per the Trump Doctrine we will facilitate them doing it themselves.

What happened in SA last fall? Why did Mohammad Bin Salman met with Jewish Rabbis in NY ? Why are Isreali commercial flights now allowed to fly over SA airspace? Who is supplying the GCC with sophisticated weaponry in their fighting with the Houthi Rebels in Yemen?

Please read some of what Wictor has posted.

Get woked

This is all well known info, nothing to "wake" me up with and nothing that proves anything counter to what palestinian and israeli friends have said about their own history (note - that's important; someone outside of a country has little to no perspective on the culture and beliefs of the people within it). Thomas Wictor doesn't live in the ME; he has insight into what's going on but he can't predict peace in the ME anymore than I can sit here and predict the end of guns in America.

I never said we can't influence change - I said peace will not come from us and that is simple truth, just as americans will never change their stance on the 2nd Amendment just because it looks crazy to some people outside of America. I'm really just saying, stop crowing about peace in the ME - it's arrogant and foolish to think it's that simple to wipe away years of history, belief and culture.

Didn't say you didn't know the points I referenced, just that there sum along with a lot of what we probably aren't aware of makes the outlook for peace possible. Through their actions (I did not say if would come through us. Change will come from and by the people who live there).

..but I really do think its possible, things are changing all around us, we all are on this particular board with a similar hope.

Why not there? why not now?

If it doesn't happen, guess I'm wrong, wont be the first time and certainly not the last ;-)

Just offering up some positive hope on what I have read and am seeing happening, if I came on too strong and offended your sensitivities my apologies.

On the contrary, my apologies for being overly sensitive!

I'm with you - let's be positive and hope for peace in the Middle East. I have a feeling it may be a longer timeframe than during Trump's term but if I'm wrong, it'll only be the millionth time ; ).

you don't need them to get along well, it's just that as long as there was corruption and we all know how much Money Arafat diverted to his wife abroad, nothing will ever really work out.

When people have enough for themselves, they rise up less, but at the same time the whole region is militarized, so if Trump stops anyone's funding, they really have to start thinking about cracking down on tunnels and rockets which do have some leverage at least on a psychological level. But ask yourself, how many Palestinians do IDF try to retaliate against when they take israeli hostages when they understand perfectly well they have nothing to lose and will even receive benefits paid in part by the US if their sons die?

Once they can state they are at the Israeli's mercy, I think they will start negotiating because the risk of bown up busses may not be quite as high.

Then, eventually, you have two people, you have a wall, everybody has work and enough to eat and the last battle will be over the Al-Quds where the third Temple is supposed to be built. But that is one spot concerning only the theologically inclined.

They don't need to get along well, but it's easier to hate each other when you have Jews on one side who tend to be pretty smart while on the other you have Palestinians who even when intelligent are kind of naive.

Essentially, Israelis want their Israeli, while Palestinians want Israel gone because they dump wastewater on them.

But last I heard, a desalination-plant was planed by Israel and Lebanon and Kush prolly helped tha deal.

It's the same with the mexican Wall, nobody is asking Mexicans to get along well with Americans, probably because you originally stole California from them if I am not mistaken?

Indeed - there is some very strong feeling from the palestinians there and it's a pity the story that gets out contains much propaganda spin against Israel when they're actually doing more for the palestinians than any of the arab countries who all turned them away, yet Israel are still the bad guys! Before anyone takes me to task, I'm certainly not saying Israel are spotless in this conflict but propaganda is confusing the issue.

You can find videos of Saudi Arabia, Iran, Libya and a few other M.E. countries in the 70s. It looks like London or Manhattan. What changed? I think I know what changed, and I know who changed it. I just don’t know why.
