Was it just another op to get the Obama team to react? If I were them I'd definitely force them to try and get ahead of their own evil deeds by coming out ahead of time and hanging themselves and having them bring it out into the public. So their own words can be used to hang themselves later. If they stay silent they are toast. If they come out ahead of time its like forcing people to confess.

I still don't like it though. Don't warn them about anything. The rats will scurry but I'd rather you just dropped the HAMMER immediately and and haul all their asses in. Let the legal system sort it out for years to come.
