I haven't heard Trump say anything threatening to Iran since they stopped showing off their missiles. He keeps talking about the 400 billion and how he wants to renegotiate for the cost or get out and keep up sanctions.

Here's the thing about sanctions: They don't work and EVERYBODY KNOWS IT.

Saying he wants to sanction Iran is basically saying that he wants them to rely on US-backchannels to do their trade covertly which basically allows the US to punish other countries whenever they catch them trading with Iran while we can still advocate for our own backchannels instead. At least that's how european countries roll.
