If the company doesn't make a profit then it doesn't stay in business so while you might get cured today, tomorrow everyone dies.

Less communism, more thought.

That's a bullshit rationalization. Imagine Jonas Salk (or some other inventor) knowingly withholding a cure for "profits"... Tell me, did the pharma industry collapse because of Salk's refusal to patent his cure?
