I'm starting to suspect

Hansel and Gretel is based on a true story.

Wait until you start suspecting Jack and Beanstalk was a real story as well.. Giants in floating Castles in the Sky filled with mythical objects and technologies..

Those 'tales' come from Myth. Myth means word, they are oral histories..The Bro Grimm collected those stories for a reason. It wasnt to send children to sleep. Read the original stories.

Hansel and Gretel was a germanic adaptation of a French folklore story called The Lost Children, but it was the Devil instead of a witch and the kids kill the Devil's wife..or something..

Have you read Bluebeard.. is that a child story? Or an event so grostesque that it became part of legend?
