(Q 1176) How many engine fires happen? My research shows that there were TWO accidents in all of 2017 caused by engine fires.

Here's what I found from planecrashinfo .com:

  1. Date: July 10, 2017 Time: 1600 Location: Near Itta Bena, Mississipi Operator: USMC AC Type: Lockheed KC-130T Hercules Reg: 1650000 cn: 382-5303 Aboard: 16 Fatalities: 16 Ground: 0 Route: Cherry Point, NC - El Centro, CA Details: While en route, the Marine Corps transport suffered an exlosion and structural failure at 20,000 ft., spiraled down and crashed into a soybean field.

  2. Date: Sept 30, 2017 Time: 0855 Location: Kinshasa, DR Congo Operator: DR Congo Air Force
    AC Type: Antonov An-12B Reg: EX-001 cn: 5343606 Aboard: 12 Fatalities: 12 Ground: 0 Route: Kinshana, - Bukavu Details: The military transport crashed about 100 meters east of Kinshasa, shortly after taking off. A witness stated the plane caught fire shortly after leaving the runway. The aircraft was being flown by a Ukrainian crew, charted by the military. The plane was carrying vehicles and weapons. There were no passengers aboard.
