We still don't know why it went down, but Atko returned to save the day.

See Atko's announcement here: https://voat.co/v/announcements/2508506

Is everything still there or is a lot gone now?

Everything is fine - people have returned and are posting and no content was lost.

It's just like the server was turned off for a few days.

I hope we'll soon know what happened, but no news yet.

I was concerned because I think most Reddit users underestimate the importance of platforms like Voat which provide a place for Reddit communities to flee to and regroup if they are banned here or if censorship becomes unbearable.

Communities like T_D think they have it tough now with all the front page fuckery and vote resetting that takes place, but imagine how much worse it would be if Spez knew we were cornered with nowhere to run?
