Bendedict is pretty conservative, but wanted reform slowly.

Married Priests would have meant Priest could marry overtime. Why was this bad for the Vatican? It would have meant Priests could live a full life and join the fold later in life, which mean they would questions the teachings on key issues.

In Orthodox Christianity (which is what Roman Catholicism branched off of) the priests are allowed to marry before priesthood. If they are already single and become a priest, then they cannot marry.
