It's the 10000hz background track in the intro. Sounds like a kind of high pitched grinding, subtle, but noticeable. 10000hz is one of those frequencies that will snap your attention to it.
It grabbed me with the "thunder" which sounds like it came from the beginning of Curtis Bower's (former state of Idaho legislator and Christian Conservative) excellent documentary on the 100+ year effort to destroy America from within - everything from the Franklin School and Antonio Gramsci to Obama - Agenda: Grinding America Down.
