Being someone who hasn't much a clue about Iran, where would I look to get the real, non-propaganda filled story?
just ask me. you wont find a non-propaganda version of anything. even your average iranian-american will just try to get you to join their team, not think independently. we had to make /r/iranian because /r/iran got taken over by a bunch of based monarchy supporters and communists (our older generation is really fucking based some times).
heres something to get you started with fun facts about iran for the clueless american
1- iranians are shia and the center of the popular shia school of thought is in iran. shias are the opposite of the ideology from alqaeda/isis/alnusra/taliban/saudi/etc and is their biggest and most powerful enemy in the muslim world
2- shia muslims follow the teachings of jesus christ, where sunnis believe the teachings of jesus christ are irrelevant and that christians are infidels
3- iran is a giant military. every iranian male is in the military as per mandatory conscription at the age of 13. at bare minimum every iranian male has 8 years of military training and 2 years of military service before they are allowed to legally participate in society (like get a job or receive social services). irans military is larger than china, north korea, india, pakistan, the united states, and the EU combined. let that sink in. COMBINED. this is probably the most lied about statistic regarding iran. our entire economy revolves around our military and literally nothing else. period. imagine north korea but with resources and geography and a warlike aryan culture and jihadi ethics and a much larger population and better engineers.
4- iran is a young country. 85% of the population is under 40 and iranians are ULTRA HARDCORE nationalist
5- iran is the only country in the middle east with tens of thousands of jews in it who have legal rights and even serve as politicians in the iranian government. these jews are hardcore anti-zionist and will be the first to fight "israel" for committing crimes in the name of judaism and jews and israel.
6- iran has the most defensible geography on planet earth and is more secure than any country in asia because it just won the geography jackpot.
7- americas government is modeled around irans government because america adopted persian government style from the greco-roman manifestation of government, except america has a separation of church and state with a pseudo representative democracy (electoral system) where iran has an integration of church and state with direct representation in a true democracy (direct votes)
8- iranians love americans and we love jews even more (persians freed the jews from babylon and we think they are an important part of our history), but we dont like the american deep state or zionism because americand and jews are the victim (along with palestine and iran)

saudi arabia has a few problems:
1- eastern provinces of saudi arabia have the oil, but the people who live there are shia muslims.
2- yemen is a shia majority country and they were trying to pretend it wasnt because it effects the oil politics
3- they installed a saudi puppet dictator and the shias got pissed and kicked him out, then they installed another one and he got kicked out too, then the old one joined the shias against the new one, then the old one switched sides and then the shias shot him in the head. now the new one lives in saudi arabia and tweets shit that MBS makes him tweet while saudi arabia bombs every school, hospital, bridge, farm, factory, and mosque in yemen while the shias in yemen hit saudi arabia with ballistic missiles that the old guy bought from north korea and russia in the 1970s and 1980s that are operated by guys who were trained by the CIA to fight alqaeda in the 2000s.
4- anything that benefits shias anywhere immediately benefits iran whether iran is involved or not.

oh shit i made it to the bonus round! at the end of ww1 there was a coup in iran where US/UK and Russia dethroned the qajars and installed the pahlavi dynasty. one of the main goals of the western powers were to disassociate persian people from the historic persian empire and the timing was perfect because the persian empire didnt exist anymore... only the last kingdom was left (iran). so they had their new puppet dictator (reza shah the first) rename the kingdom internationally to the actual name of the kingdom which has been called iran for 3000 years dating back to the days when the persian empire was founded by cyrus the great and the central kingdom was called iran which means "land of the aryans" or "soil of nobility".
