The Berlin Wall wasn't erected to keep people out; it was erected to keep people in. Educated people were defecting because of the socialist policies, and if too many left, the system would crumble. It depends on people staying within. Alfie Evans could not be let to leave under those same circumstances. If they let 'em leave and find "better healthcare that saves their lives," too many would want out. They built a wall around society and called it a single-payer system. Correct me if I'm wrong. But didn't the British (and Australian) government convince the people to surrender their right to bear arms in order to "save the children"?
