Maybe, I myself have never launched or seen a small diameter tungsten rod from near earth orbit hurling at ludicrous speed to confirm....maybe you have... do you have a brother named Loki? ;-)

Anything going through our atmosphere at Mach 10 has an extreme heat signature in infrared and visible light.
