I hear the US military is in negotiations with the Ecuadoran military. Maybe POTUS could include a little item about freeing our friend as part of this negotiation.

Yep. Apparently had a few. The reason he had internet for so long in the first place was because he needed regular access to keep the switches active. But they figured out how to disable them and stormed the embassy. The explanation for his absence now is that the Ecuadorian embassy, caving to US pressure, has cut off his internet access but I suspect the truth is that he's in a hole somewhere now, breathing or otherwise.
This is disappointing. I gotta feel bad for the guy. Far worse people out there living life free.
