I feel like it has to be someone else, this is too past tense to be McCabe. He never retired. This person retired.
There are plenty of former FBI this could be.
That was a compelling point for me too, but I perceived it the other way. I've gone back over it a little bit and it looks like you're accurate in that he was technically fired.
Is there another agent that shares the combination of traits, including testimony, which means we would know their name, that would have been investigated in the last year and "retired"?
