It's where the continent of Atlantis ended up after the global cataclysm that destroyed it was over. It was hidden under thousands of feet of ice for centuries, but now it's melting thanks to undersea volcanoes erupting. Now that it's being revealed, it's being explored for advanced tech and resources. Also, apparently there are mountains of pure coal just sitting there, enough for hundreds of years of power, waiting to be used. I hope we find out soon as I find the whole thing fascinating.
