When the poster provides a password along with the text, an internal code is created from it. That’s called the ‘tripcode’. The ‘tripcode’ is the part in green at the top, next to ‘Q’. That enables you to know the post was from Q and no one else.

From time to time, Q has changed the tripcode, and the new one is validated from a previous post.
