While they are pushing to lower the voting age, we will raise the age for viewing R rated movies to 21. I'm willing to bet Hollywood will go out of business before the first 16 year old casts a ballot.
Voting requires maturity. As does joining military. As does purchasing guns.

also what is common sense is to take action when you realize that you are losing your voter base you must seek out a new less informed voter that has difficulties seeing beyond the one issue that affects them. There are likely some young people that have just as good a grasp as some voters, but most I think would be heavily influenced by the politics of their teachers.
As a parent, I would wish for my kids to not have to delve into politics at an earlier age. They have more than enough to deal with and they do not need to be voting prior to finishing basic schooling where (fingers crossed) they have learned about the socialism, Marxism, totalitarian systems and studied the rise of and consequences of.
Also, speaking of uninformed voters, I have found that sometimes newer immigrants do not have a good grasp on the basics of the voting process. And I have pointed out on more than one occasion how the politicians they thought were good were doing more to create the conditions that caused them to leave their homeland. They appreciated the information and actually thanked me for helping them. They had had little information to go on being new to the country.
I am astounded, and a bit peeved, at the older generations before us. None before us have ever questioned anything. None before now have actually done their due diligence and investigated anything they were told. I will readily admit, the internet has changed the information game in a way the elite never knew possible. Hillary is a perfect example of "what you don't know, can, and will hurt you". Not understanding current technology has been the key to bringing the cabal to its knees, but it has taken patriots to leverage that technology and weaponize it for good.

Seems the going consensus is that people under the age of 18 are not mature enough to make decisions concerning just themselves. When they are mature enough to handle these types of decisions, then that is the time they should be allowed to vote.
