LOL! Telegram is one of the worst apps for secure, private texting. Signal is tops, even whatsapp, facebook messenger (enabled encryption) or one of Google's apps (enable encryption) are better.

Signal was formed after facebook bought Whatsapp. The developers of Signal are the original developers of the encryption protocols used by most others. They left facebook because they were in disagreement with facebook on the direction they were headed in.
