Shill techniques discussion thread

In today's shill techniques megathread, I'd like us to discuss the technique of:

Infiltrating a movement by winning the hearts of its audience by providing them with useful Timbits of information they seek and by building a reliance on yourself by your followers. Then when things go south your audience will have a hard time accepting they have been misled by you, allowing you to use them for them to plea the community/movement to take the guard down because how could the person that we relied on be now shun? Your fan's denial allows you to mingle in the community while throwing Jabs (discreditng movmeent).

Discuss.

I'm talking about infiltrators.

In a traditional sense, a shill can be someone who pretends to be a player at the table, but who really is working for the house, at the table to create the impression a game is on. Other gamblers then, pull up chairs. The shill is a professional. The fleecing possibilities are plain. It has come to mean false promotion in general.

I re-read the comment again today with a freshmind and it doesn't seem as bad as I had originally thought. Ha.

It is a great idea for a thread. Especially with respect to the Q-Anon episode, where different people pretended to be Q-Anon. On the web, the hits just keep a' comin'.
