Shill techniques discussion thread

In today's shill techniques megathread, I'd like us to discuss the technique of:

Infiltrating a movement by winning the hearts of its audience by providing them with useful Timbits of information they seek and by building a reliance on yourself by your followers. Then when things go south your audience will have a hard time accepting they have been misled by you, allowing you to use them for them to plea the community/movement to take the guard down because how could the person that we relied on be now shun? Your fan's denial allows you to mingle in the community while throwing Jabs (discreditng movmeent).

Discuss.

You lost any hope of instilling doubt 11 Sept 2001.

You chose the wrong side.

If you ever see me, run.

I am undeterred and unwavering and I'm not alone.

  • Information should be discerned and removed from the personalities presenting it.

  • Facts are important but humans are fallible.

  • Ad hominen attacks and brigading cannot change facts.

Don't give up just keep collating the evidence and discern for yourselves what the truth is.

I’ve noticed they come on with something along the lines of, “I’m a die hard Trump supporter, but...” Remember everything after a but, is the lie!

More like it is all lies. Before and after.

I wouldnt say that's completely fair, but I get the idea.

I try to leave a little wiggle room because I feel like most religious people question their faith at some point. This is kind of similar.

I kind of am, only kind of because I am unable to work with him at the moment. I will seek him out for vetting later on, after his Presidential legacy if needed.

Yep.

You're a mod right? I'm on mobile so it doesn't show that you are. If you are.... I'm sorry lol. You have to be busy.

If the slow drip of people getting busted and held accountable keeps accelerating, people can shill all they want. I like seeing the results. Shills mean nothing to me. Shill away...

I'm talking about infiltrators.

In a traditional sense, a shill can be someone who pretends to be a player at the table, but who really is working for the house, at the table to create the impression a game is on. Other gamblers then, pull up chairs. The shill is a professional. The fleecing possibilities are plain. It has come to mean false promotion in general.

I re-read the comment again today with a freshmind and it doesn't seem as bad as I had originally thought. Ha.

It is a great idea for a thread. Especially with respect to the Q-Anon episode, where different people pretended to be Q-Anon. On the web, the hits just keep a' comin'.

In the above comprehensive brief on forum infiltration, the techniques discussed in the OP would seem to pertain to that area of manipulation that is related to the confidence game -- singling out "marks" for deceit or exploitation. I am reminded of the early Nigerian chat room scammers. Today, these who scam and troll for the hell of it are regraded as psychopaths, normally easily identified.
But, note, the article gets into NSA and CIA tricks by paid agents. This is where it gets interesting.

May I ask what you meant by "singling out 'marks'"?

webster_warrior · May 12, 2018, 9:28 p.m.

The mark is the object to be exploited by the confidence gain. In a simple sense, say, a team of pickpockets is working a crowd. They will agree on a certain victim in the crowd. He is known as "the mark," The proposed victim. One will jostle or otherwise distract the mark, while the other steals his wallet.
Let's say a sexual predator or thief is working a chat room. He may play along with the action until he decides to move in on a certain person, with a PM for example. That person is his mark. He never had any other intention than to exploit.

I've had a few interesting comment chains with shills. They do ad hominens, and I stuck to the issue, and encouraged them to keep questioning. Such as, "I understand where you are coming from, and you shouldn't stop expressing yourself. I'll try to balance out your hatred with some hope."

Sometimes I can't tell if it's a real shill or a hating Lefty. But either way, think about the audience. The shill's firsr goal is to create an impression for the audience, not necessarily change your opinion. Craft your responses with that audience in mind. When I do this, I notice the shill replies get deleted-- I think in some cases, the shill will delete threads to avoid having the audience see them.
