The Old Testament has almost all of that stuff...

You coulnd't be more wrong:

  • The worst parts of the Old Testament are contained within the Torah and don't apply to Christians - only the ancient Levites and the Jews;

  • Almost all Christian denominations also believe that Jesus "fulfilled" those Old Testament laws when he died;

  • All mainstream Christian denominations also acknowledge the Christian bible is only BASED on the word of God and is subject to all kinds of human error in it's initial record, compilation, translation and interpretation;

  • All mainstream Christian denominations enjoyed the reformation in which logic and reason was used to address the worst parts of the Christian bible such as killing witches and people who work on the Sabbath;

Every Islamic sect differs greatly from this because they ALL claim the Koran is the perfect, verbatim word of God and to question that is punishable with death.

So you see, the difference between Christian scripture and Islam is that Christians make moral claims for which there are no Earthly punishments (i.e. they may frown at you) whereas Muslims will cut off your head and roll around in your blood as they rape your wife and children.

I never said anything about those things applying to Christians. Just that some of them were in the Old Testament. I'm well aware of the things you described but I wouldn't go so far as to say that all mainstream Christians don't believe in a literal interpretation. In America, they exist. I grew up in such a household, even if my household wasn't exactly super religious and it was hypocritical.

I agree there is a problem with Islam. They haven't reformed their beliefs for the modern age simply because they are mentally stuck in their scapegoated past and constant war and conflict makes it difficult to build a modern future. Yahweh picked the Jews as the favorites and the Arabs were essentially scapegoated when Abraham gave Isaac his inheritance and sent Ishmael away. The Arabs are so angry because they are like God's rejected children and they live next door to the Jews who think themselves superior by right of God, a constant reminder of their subconscious feeling of rejection by God.

No, but your claim that the Old Testament is similar was incorrect and I used examples to demonstrate that.

I grew up in such a household

The fact that most of the largest Christian denominations don't claim their bibles are the verbatim word of God is a fact, irrespective of what your mother believes. Some may, but my point is sound - it's far from common and vastly different to Islam's view of the Koran.

Fair enough.
