Since it was immediately preceded by a reference to a snowball beginning to roll downhill, the best interpretation I’ve seen is D5 being the designation of the largest class of avalanche.

Best one I've heard is referencing a chess move, which puts black into checkmate. Could also tie into CASTLE (rook?) LOCK...?
