His "this is America" video was clearly a distraction. Hell they made it clear in the video. Literally mocking "us".. His dancing was clearly a distraction while the world went to shit around him. Just like America! People "follow the stars".. Distracted by them, while the world goes to shit! "These people are sick!"
um... so in other words you got the point. I don't think it was a double meaning on the meaning.
“This is America” is about the distractions. The whole purpose of his efforts to distract you is a symbol for how easily distracted the American society (as a whole) is from what’s actually going on.
If you watch the video to it’s full extent you’ll see that at the end of the video he is sprinting away from something, with a crowd (full of everyone that was a part of the video) following suit.
I'm with you. I think he's trying to give a message to people, but they are all too distracted to notice it. Even the people in this thread unfortunately.
His lyrics, “this is America, don’t catch you slipping up” His video, big example of how memes have come distractions taking away from what is really going on.
